FIELD OF ASPHODEL
This new performance tells the story of the abduction of Persephone by Hades to the underworld - said to illustrate the creation of summer and winter in ancient Greek mythology. The presentation resonates with the Chernobyl disaster and Fukishima with quotes from survivors and witnesses.
“A performance of multi-skilled professionalism which sets new standards in this genre” Chernobyl Children Charity
“Wonderful” “Mesmerising!” “I loved the energy” “Absolutely loved the music and shadow puppetry!” Audience comments
“Incorporates many different elements and includes shadow puppetry, larger puppets along with music and dance” The Observer
The production was conceived to coincide with the 25 year anniversary of Chernobyl, drawing parallels between the spoiled earth aftermath of the explosion and the goddess of agriculture, Demeter’s withdrawal of fertility from the world as a result of the rape of her daughter, Persephone, in the creation myth.
